Biography
“Le jardin extraordinaire” is the result of Jean-Claude Mazel and Yann Jalix’s collaboration.
Jean-Claude Mazel was born in 1950 in Paris.
He attended the Beaux-Arts and the Decorative Arts schools.
Mazel explores different media, but his primary passion is drawing. In 1974, he began exhibiting his work, concentrating on lines and stylization of his subjects.
He became interested in sculpture at a very early age. He continued the same approach purifying and simplifying his models in a poetic fantasy that presents the full measure of his work.
Yann Jalix is a sculptor with a passion for bronze. He is also a video artist interested in plants.
He creates installations mixing video with photography and sculpture.
Jean-Claude Mazel and Yann Jalix met in the 1980s and started to collaborate in 1989. They set up their foundry and engaged in a creative dialogue where each uses different media to compose the same artistic statement and stylistic research. In 2000, they gave life to the “Jardin Extraordinaire,” the extraordinary garden.
The contribution of each artist in this collaboration is so prolific that they sign “Mazel & Jalix” as if one artist had done it.
